Subject: Gulf Coast Insulation Recommendation

To Whom It Concerns:

I researched alternatives for reducing my heating and air conditioning bill and after several weeks reached several ideas that might help. I then began my research for organizations that could help me with my goal of lowering my bill. Gulf Coast Insulation was one of the companies that I called.  To my surprise they listened to my goal and my ideas on how to accomplish them.  I thought I need to do multiple things with a "radiant barrier" being high on my list.

You should have seen my expression when Michael-General Manager explained they would be happy to put a radiant barrier in my attic but he began to ask me questions and he said that based on my responses that they would recommend increasing the attic insulation and to place a "tent" over the attic door sealing the attic from the interior of the house better.  I agreed to try this approach.  The cost of installing insulation and the tent were very reasonable and the proof was in the next electric bill which dropped by 11% in watts used to cool the house.  My son who sleeps upstairs stated the day after installation he had to use a blanket because it was cooler then it had been.  The thermostat had not been changed.  We have now raised the upstairs temperature by 5 degrees and are still more comfortable then before we installed the installation.

I called Michael to thank him for the suggestion and we discussed other ideas.  The windows on our 11 year old home were single pain and we had 25 windows.  I knew that if they were double pain it would really help.  I was concerned that the investment was more than I could afford.  We really took some time and did considerable research on the alternatives.  Several years earlier we had placed solar tinting on the windows to help reflect the heat.  This did help but not as much as I was trying to accomplish.

We made the decision to install Showcase double pane windows.  The installation of 25 windows was completed in a week with very little interruption to the family.

The first thing we notice is how quiet the house became.  The noise from the outside had all but vanished.  We could no longer hear someone slam a car door or cars driving by.  The windows had even a better surprise as our electric bill reduced by another 14% of watts used to cool the house as compared to the previous year for the same month.

We are very please with the professional quality of the sales cycle, installation process and the results.

We are being asked questions by our neighbors and friends and all we can say is if your goal is lower your cooling cost and get other benefits like a quieter home then you need to consider both insulation and tent in the attic pull down stairs and double pain windows.  If they ask about how please I was with the company we selected I tell them about my research and that we were very happy and please with the professionalism of the complete
Gulf Coast Insulation team.

Re: Gulf Coast Insulation

To: Wanda Armstrong

Recently, I purchased a home built in the late 1960’s in Houston, Texas. The previous

owner had done extensive renovations to the living areas but had left everything above

the ceiling unfinished. As a result, it was my responsibility to finish the renovations in

order to bring the home to a decently livable condition. One of my tasks was to

adequately replace approximately 2,700 sq-ft of attic insulation.

The insulation up there was grossly inadequate. Much of what seemed to be batted (so

old I cannot tell) insulation had turned totally black from age and crumbled at the

lightest touch. Any attempts to move it caused a plume of fine particles in the air. Most

of it has compacted to about 2-3” and has pulled away from the joists, revealing the

drywall underneath. There were several attempts previously to replace some patches of

insulation, but they were simply placed right on top of the old rotten insulation, simply

masking the horrendous junk underneath. As such, I started doing research on Houston

area attic insulation companies who would be able to help me.

I quickly found that many companies will not even entertain the possibility of doing old

insulation removal & attic cleaning at that scale. Some would do it only if I did some

“pre-cleaning” myself and removed some of the attic decking. The one or two that

would do the job quoted me a price for removal that was significantly higher than the

actual installation of the insulation.

This was when I “Googled” upon Gulf Coast Insulation, Inc. Their website seemed to

highlight their expertise in old insulation removal. I gave them a call and spoke to

Mike. My first impression was that he was friendly, inviting and easy to talk to.

Mike came over personally to do an initial inspection and estimate. He very patiently

explained to me his findings. I was surprised to hear that he had different

recommendations for my specific insulation needs than what was suggested by other

companies. For example, he recommended against radiant barrier for my home and

to go with a thicker R-44 blown-in insulation. I really appreciated that he explained very

clearly the rationale behind each recommendation which allowed me to make informed

decisions.

Michael's approachability also made it feel like I was talking to an old friend as opposed

to a salesman trying to get me to buy his product. To top things off, his estimate was

extremely reasonable and he wasn’t going to charge me an arm and a leg to remove the

decking or insist that I do some “pre-cleaning” of my attic. All this and the fact that he

was able to start on the job rather quickly, I decided to go with them.

I was tremendously impressed when the company's GM Michael personally showed

up with his crew on the day of the job and was involved in the actual work itself. I left

them to do their job while I was at work and when I returned in the evening, they were

already cleaning up. The first thing I noticed was a truckload of trash bags containing

junk, which came out of my attic. I was surprised by how much junk was up there in the

first place. Mike took me for a tour up in the attic and I was very pleasantly surprised

when I stuck my head up into the attic. All the black crumbly disgusting pieces of old

insulation were replaced by nice fluffy pink blown-in insulation. Michael explained that

he had some unused bags of insulation left over, so he promptly went and used them

anyway to achieve greater than the agreed R-44 in several places. On top of that, I

was quite pleased with the attention to the little details such as blowing through my

soffit vents from the outside to ensure that no bits of insulation interferes with the

proper ventilation in my attic. Michael not only threw in an attic tent as an additional

freebie but also told me that if, in an event that any future attic work involves the

moving or removal of insulation, that I should give him a call and he will come by and

either rake the insulation back for me or install another bag of insulation for free! To

top things off, they did an excellent job with the clean up. The floors and carpet were

vacuumed cleanly, all the furniture and rugs that were moved previously were promptly

returned to their original locations and there was not a single fluff of insulation to be

seen anywhere in the living areas. I cannot adequately convey how impressed I am

with Wanda and her professional staff at Gulf Coast Insulation.

Not only are their prices extremely reasonable, their commitment to their work

and attention to detail is simply extraordinary. I would not hesitate to recommend

the entire staff and crew to anyone with attic insulation needs. In fact, I am most

compelled to return to them myself when it comes time for me to replace my old

drafty and worn out patio doors and windows.

Sincerely,

M.Wong

Subject: Letter of Recommendation

To Management,

I’ve been wanting to commend Gulf Coast Insulation on the great job done with my attic insulation installation.  I was more or less in a tight spot when I walked into your facility in December.  It was 4 days before the cold snap was arriving in Houston.  I called numerous insulation companies for bids. At the same time, I was trying to find a company to come out to my home to do the installation before the “big freeze” hit.  I had discovered that my attic had about 2 to 3 inches of insulation, and it was imperative that I get some blown in.  After talking to you about the types of insulation, and your recommendation to use a new product out on the market (L-77), I went home to do some research.  You were very thorough with your explanation and what sold me on using L-77 was that it is non-allergy, no itch, environmentally safe and adds soundproofing, and you could raise the U-Rating for not much more.  You also informed me that you could install it before the freeze hit.  From a pricing perspective you were on target to what I wanted to spend.  After researching the product and calling a few more companies, I decided to use Gulf Coast Insulation.  What really swayed my decision was that many of the other insulation companies I called had add-on costs for barriers around the soffits and HVAC unit.  You assured me that experienced installers didn’t need all of that and it was a waste of money. I did not feel the professionalism with the other Insulation companies as I did with Gulf Coast insulation. They know the home building and the remodeling business in side and out, as I questioned them on many issues and they knew the right answers.

Sure enough, your team came in the day before the freeze hit, and blew in the Pink Owens Corning L-77.  Since I had to work, I had a friend meet you over at my house.  She said your team was very professional, got down to business and had the job done in no time.  They cleaned up after themselves and were gone.  When I arrived home from work, I couldn’t tell anyone had been there.  To be sure I inspected my attic and soffits.  I wanted to make sure that the coverage was everywhere and nothing got into my HVAC unit. It was indeed, a job well done.

I have definitely noticed a difference in the sound, it is quieter.  Additionally, my HVAC unit has not been running as much as it did prior to the insulation installation.  It is too soon to tell on my utility bill since it has not quite yet been a month, but I am confident I will see a difference. I have later found out that they have re-insulated and replaced old sliding glass patio doors in many of my neighbors homes over the years, I am glad I found a female own business and I will keep spreading a good word for your company.

I really appreciated you and your team helping me out with the timing, the pricing, and the product.  You definitely have me as a referral, so feel free to pass my contact information to anyone that may want to check out your references.  You have my contact information.

Best regards,

E. Bohlmann

Mike and Crew:

Thank you so much for the wonderful insulation job – it has made a HUGE difference in my electrical costs!! My home was built in the mid 1950’s and I believe it still had the original attic insulation. I compared my electrical bill this month to the same time last year and it was $60 less – WOW!! I now keep my thermostat set to 78 deg and am very comfortable. Also the A/C unit does not seen to kick on as often. Am anxious to see what the bill is for the remainder of the summer!

Your crew were a pleasure – courteous and very professional. You would never know they were there after the job was completed – no mess at all.

You will definitely have referrals after my experience with your company – keep up the great work!!

 Sincerely,

 L Cronk
